Indonesian officials say they have found 40 dead bodies, luggage, a
plane door, and an emergency slide floating in the water off the coast
of Borneo Island. They are all from the AirAsia flight that disappeared
two days ago after losing communications with control tower after
encountering storm clouds.
At least 40 of the bodies, many of them not wearing life jackets , have been removed from the water and taken from the scene on board an Indonesian navy ship. Images on Indonesian television showed half-naked bloated bodies bobbing in the sea. Several pieces of red, white and black debris were earlier spotted in the Java Sea near Borneo island which officials later confirmed to be debris from the missing jet.

family members who were at the airport waiting for any good news from
the missing planes, watched live on TV as the rescue team found bodies
of loved ones floating on the sea and was being recovered.
The Daily Mail Online said a search team had so far located six bodies, luggage, a plane door and an emergency slide floating in the water.

National Search and Rescue Agency chief Bambang Soelistyo told a press conference that an Air Force Hercules had found an object described as a shadow at the bottom of the sea in the form of a plane.
Some 21 divers had been sent to retrieve debris and bodies from the water 25-30m deep.
He said he was rushing to Surabaya. "Whatever we can do at AirAsia we will be doing."
Images on local television showed at least one bloated corpse. The bodies, swollen but intact, were taken to an Indonesian navy ship, National Search and Rescue Director SB Supriyadi told reporters in Pangkalan Bun.
The corpses did not have life jackets on. Navy spokesman Manahan Simorangkir confirmed the discovery to TVOne, saying several victims were found, but he did not indicate whether they were dead or alive. Air Force spokesman Hadi Tjahjanto told MetroTV at least one body was found.
Indonesian officials coming off a helicopter in Pangkalan Bun, a town on the island of Borneo, said they spotted several bodies floating in the water.
The bodies were found in the water near debris from AirAsia jet QZ8501. The latest news comes as Indonesia's civil aviation chief confirmed the debris found in the search area was from the missing plane.
"For the time being it can be confirmed that it's the AirAsia plane and the transport minister will depart soon to Pangkalan Bun," Djoko Murjatmodjo said.
A plane door and emergency slide, believed to be debris from missing AirAsia flight QZ8501, had been spotted by search teams. Reports from crews suggested as many as 10 items may have been located - including what might be a life raft, life jackets and long orange tubes.

"Based on the observation by search and rescue personnel, significant things have been found such as a passenger door and cargo door. It's in the sea, 160 kilometres southwest of Pangkalan Bun," Mr Djoko said. Pangkalan Bun is in central Kalimantan on the island of Borneo.

An Indonesian Air Force member also described seeing a body in the water.
This aerial view taken from an Indonesian search and rescue aircraft over the Java Sea shows floating debris spotted in the same area as other items being searched.
"The body seemed bloated,' First Lieutenant Tri Wibowo, who was on board a Hercules aircraft during the search operation, was reported as saying by Kompas.com.
Several victims had been spotted in the search zone of the missing AirAsia flight, the Indonesian Navy said, according to RT.com. "There was a man swaying on the waves. After I looked at the photo carefully on my laptop, I understood it was a human body," a lieutenant of the Indonesian Air Force told local media.
Indonesian authorities were checking if what they saw were bodies or survivors, Navy officials said. There were no immediate reports of any survivors, although the presence of a life raft might raise hopes people survived the crash.

Indonesian air force official Agus Dwi Putranto said in Surabaya today that searchers may have found the site where the flight is believed to have gone down. Displaying photos of 10 large objects and a number of smaller white-coloured, still unidentified objects, Mr Agus said the items were seen about 10km from the location where the aircraft was last logged on radar.
The discovery of the items led to an increased concentration of aircraft and ships in the area amid faint hopes there might be survivors.
"Let's pray that those objects are what we are really trying to find,' said Mr Agus.

'Victims' have been spotted near the area where the missing AirAsia plane vanished, Indonesia officials say.
Indonesia officials coming off a helicopter say they spotted several bodies in the Pangkalan Bun in the vicinity where the plane disappeared.
Indonesia officials confirmed reports of spotting an emergency door and a life jacket in the Java Sea.
An Indonesian military aircraft spotted white, red and black objects including what appears to be a life jacket about 105 miles off the coast of Pangkalan Bun Tuesday. One helicopter has been dispatched to pick up the items for investigation.
"This is the most significant finding, but we cannot confirm anything until the investigation is completed," Murjatmodjo said.
The announcement comes after the U.S. sent a destroyer to help with the search-and-rescue operation Tuesday.
The 7th Fleet said the USS Sampson, which was already on an independent deployment in the Western Pacific, would be at the scene later Tuesday, Fox News confirmed.
AirAsia Flight 8501, an Airbus A320-200 that carried 162 people, disappeared Sunday after seeking permission to climb above threatening clouds.
Based on the plane's last known coordinates, the aircraft probably crashed into the water and "is at the bottom of the sea," Indonesia search-and-rescue chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo said. Still, searchers planned to expand their efforts onto land on Tuesday.
Searchers spotted two oily patches and floating objects in separate locations, but it was not known any of it was related to the plane that vanished halfway into what should have been a two-hour hop from Surabaya, Indonesia, to Singapore. The area is a busy shipping lane. Officials saw little reason to believe the flight met anything but a grim fate.
The air search resumed Tuesday morning, with more assets and an expanded area, said Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency chief Henry Bambang Soelistyo.
He said at least 30 ships, 15 aircraft and seven helicopters were looking for the jet. Most of the craft were Indonesian but Singapore, Malaysia and Australia contributed to the effort. Aircraft from Thailand planned to join Tuesday's search.
The search area has been widened, with four military helicopters dispatched just after sunrise near Pangkalan Bun on the western part of Borneo island and to smaller islands of Bangka and Belitung, Bambang Soelistyo said.
"Until now, we have not yet found any signal or indication of the plane's whereabouts," Soelistyo told The Associated Press, adding fishermen from Belitung island were also helping.
Jakarta's air force base commander, Rear Marshal Dwi Putranto, said an Australian Orion aircraft had detected "suspicious" objects near an island about 100 miles (160 kilometers) off central Kalimantan. That's about 700 miles (1,120 kilometers) from where the plane lost contact, but within Monday's greatly expanded search area.
"However, we cannot be sure whether it is part of the missing AirAsia plane," Putranto said. "We are now moving in that direction."
