According to one of the men who survived the accident, the bus with the registration number Enugu XX 971ENU wassignalling to the other vehicles to make for the lorry which was loaded with thousands of empty crates of beer from OGBO tomato axis of the express due to brake failure before it finally crashed at the Mcc axis
Others who spoke anonymously thanked God that no life was lost but appealed to the state government to ban heavy duty vehicles from operating during the day to minimize the number of casualties whenever such incident occurred .
The victims, three men and a lady were later taken to St. Charles Borromew hospital for treatment.
It would be recalled that A middle-aged woman died and six others were seriously injured in a fatal accident around the Government Hous, Awka axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. The accident involving a commercial bus plying Perm Site route in Awka with registration number Awk 166 XX and a Toyota Camry car with registration number, FGG 28 LN, took place at about 5.30pm.
Fatal accident claims one life along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, six injured, Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Anambra State, Mr Sunday Ajayi said three of the injured persons were taken to a nearby hospital in Awka while three others in very critical condition were conveyed via an FRSC ambulance to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.
He identified wrongful overtaking and over speeding as the major causes of the accident and appealed to motorists to exercise caution when plying on the state roads, emphasizing the need to place safety first above every other consideration.
