The Managing Director of FAAN, Capt Hamisu Yadudu, who spoke at a press conference at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, on Saturday, gave the name of the suspect as Usman Adamu, a citizen of the Republic of the Niger.
According to him, FAAN takes full responsibility for the security breach.
The MD said the Federal Government had awarded contracts for perimeter fences at the airports, including detection devices and CCTV cameras with infrared capacity for night operations.
He added that they were planning to erect observation towers this year for a proper monitoring and coverage of the Lagos airport.
“FAAN has a security patrol/escort team in place for arriving and departing aircraft, but another joint patrol team involving FAAN Aviation Security, the police and the military has also been constituted to assist in protecting the sanctity of our airside and ensuring the security of live operations and the travelling public using our facilities,” he said.
According to him, in aviation new threats surface daily with criminals fashioning out ways to circumvent security architecture. Yadudu added, “FAAN will continue to work with relevant stakeholders and the regulatory agencies towards ensuring safe operations at our airports.”
Meanwhile, spokesman for Lagos Airport Police Command, Mr Joseph Alabi, told our correspondent that the man had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for interrogation.
