Arsenal have been rebuffed in attempts to persuade rebel captain Laurent Koscielny to stay at the club for the forthcoming season.
Sportsmail understands Gunners chiefs have tried to broker peace talks with the defender to resolve the situation which essentially saw Koscielny go on strike.
But Koscielny has made it crystal clear he wants to leave the club this summer, preferably for a return to his native France and that discussions with a view to persuading him to stay would be pointless.
It means the Gunners will sanction their skipper's exit before Thursday's transfer deadline provided they receive a suitable offer.
Despite the fact Koscielny has less than 12 months to run on his existing deal, meaning he can leave for nothing next summer - Arsenal value the veteran defender at £10million.
However given his age, Koscielny is 34 next month, it is unlikely Arsenal will receive an offer matching their valuation.
Koscielny, who was in talks over a new deal, is adamant the club should let him leave on a free transfer as a gesture of good will for the nine years of service he's given the club.
But when the club insisted they wouldn't grant his wish, Koscielny informed Unai Emery he wouldn't be travelling on their pre-season tour of the the USA - effectively going on strike.
Koscielny has been banished from first-team activities ever since and is training with the club's youngsters.
But Emery has still tried to offer the defender an olive branch ahead of the new season.
But going into the final 48 hours of the transfer window, Koscielny still hopes his wish of returning to France can still come to fruition.
Koscielny's stance means Arsenal will focus their attentions on signing a new central defender before Thursday's cut off.
It is understood Arsenal would prefer to bring in a loan signing as they continue to juggle with a limited budget.
