The Federal Government, on Tuesday, condemned the video of semi-nude women dancing seductively in a display truck around the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos on Friday, describing it as “strange entertainment from the pit of hell.”
The footage, which has since gone viral on the social media, showed half-clad ladies dancing seductively with singer, Tekno, in a transparent display van in traffic around the bridge.
The footage, which was said to be a scene from Tekno’s unreleased video titled: ‘Agege’, in which he featured Zlatan Ibile, had the musician dancing with the semi-clad women, spraying them with money and hitting them on the buttocks, an act which many Nigerians described as obscene.
Many commentators called for the prosecution of all those involved.
However, Tekno, who debunked the claim that he was dancing with the semi-clad ladies on his official Instagram account on Sunday, stated that the van was used to convey his crew to a location for a video shoot.
The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency has since suspended the advertising firm, Pro-Vision Media Systems Limited, which was linked to the van though the firm claimed that it had sold the vehicle to a third party.
Throwing its weight behind the decision of the Lagos State Government to fish out those involved in the shooting of the video, the Federal Government said it had commenced an investigation into the incident.
It warned that such immorality “must not be allowed to turn Nigeria into a destination for sex and illegal drugs tourism.”
A statement by the Director General, National Council for Arts and Culture, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Segun Runsewe, expressed the government’s commitment to positioning the true gains and pictures of the diverse cultural history of Nigeria.
Runsewe stated, “The Lekki public show negates the beauty of the Nigerian culture and way of life. It is unacceptable, ‘Jezebelistic’ and sins against the Nigerian culture, and must be condemned, ridiculed and rejected by Nigerians.
“The Lekki debacle must be used as an example to officially clamp down on promoters and influencers of strange entertainment from the pit of hell. Nigeria will never succumb to an imported cultural pastime or to blackmail tailored to destroy centuries-old and rich Nigerian culture.
“This dizzying madness cannot and will not be allowed to turn Nigeria into a destination for sex and illegal drugs tourism. Enough is enough, and for God’s sake, where is this coming from?”
Runsewe, who is also the African President of the World Craft Council, said the NCAC “is investigating the allegation against the TV company.”
According to him, the NCAC will work with other relevant government agencies to find lasting solutions to foreign cultural infractions and subtle attempts to colonise the minds of young persons in the country.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested Tekno, his producer and one other in connection with the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, told one of our correspondents that the singer was being questioned at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, over the incident.
He said, “The command has arrested Tekno and two others for conveying half-naked girls at the Lekki area of Lagos.
“He is presently undergoing questioning at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti.”
