Romelu Lukaku scored at both ends as Sevilla edged a thrilling final against Inter Milan 3-2 to win the Europa League for a sixth time in Cologne.
The Belgian slotted home an early penalty before Luuk de Jong's double put the LaLiga side in front.
Diego Godin's equaliser two minutes later then made it four goals in an open first half.
But it was Lukaku who was left to rue a big miss in the second half before the 27-year-old's unfortunate own goal handed the trophy to the Andalusian side.
Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte opted to leave his starting line-up unchanged from the 5-0 semi-final win over Shakhtar Donetsk, with Lukaku aiming to make it 11 successive Europa League games with a goal.
As for Sevilla, Julen Lopetegui made a bold call to start De Jong ahead of first-choice striker Youssef En-Nesyri after the former's winner against Manchester United in the last four.
Sevilla were looking to win the competition for the sixth time in their history against an Inter Milan side who had finished a point behind Juventus in the race for the Scudetto.
If anyone thought this final with no fans would be somewhat cagey, they would have been quite happily mistaken. Within five minutes, Inter broke at a rapid rate on the counter, with Nicolo Barella feeding in Lukaku and the Belgian, with one touch, sped past Diego Carlos.
The Brazilian, who had conceded penalties in the quarter-final and semi-final, got far too tight to Lukaku and ended up hauling down the striker inside the box, and referee Danny Makkelie pointed to the spot.
Lukaku picked himself up and with a slight stutter slotted into the corner past Yassine Bounou.
It was expected that Conte's side, set up in a 3-5-2 formation with Godin at the heart of the defence, would be difficult to break down, as Shakhtar discovered in the previous round.
However, a carbon copy of Sevilla's winning goal against United followed. Jesus Navas whipped in a fine cross and De Jong's bullet header found its way past Samir Handanovic.
A goal apiece after 13 minutes suggested this would be no ordinary final, but an end-to-end thriller. Never one to shy away from showing his passion on the touchline, Conte was booked after a disagreement with the officials and his opposite number Lopetegui.
But there could be no arguing with the quality of De Jong's second goal after the half-hour mark, which Sevilla deserved.
Ever Banega - playing his final game for Sevilla before a move to Saudi Arabia - curled in an inviting free-kick and the Dutchman rose high before aiming his looping header into the far corner.
No sooner had the Sevilla bench finished celebrating, than Inter hauled themselves back level just two minutes later. Another set-piece, this time whipped in by Marcelo Brozovic, found Godin at the far post and the experienced Uruguayan headed past Bounou.
After a breathless first half, the second descended more into the midfield battle many expected, with yellow cards and niggly fouls prominent.
Lukaku then had a golden chance when put through one-on-one with Bounou, but the Belgian didn't show the same composure as he did for the penalty, striking at the Sevilla stopper, who did brilliantly to make himself appear so big in stature.
That miss would prove to be pivotal as Lukaku got his second of the night - but not in the way he would have expected. Banega's delivery wasn't cleared by Alessandro Bastoni and Carlos executed a wonderful bicycle kick.
It looked to be heading wide and Lukaku, back defending for Inter, stuck out a foot to accidentally divert it into the net.
Conte sent on Alexis Sanchez, Christian Eriksen and Victor Moses in search of an equaliser, and it was the former who was denied by a goal-line clearance from Jules Kounde with 10 minutes left.
But as they had done so many times in this competition, Sevilla battled on and held out for a sixth Europa League triumph in a thrilling final, with Conte left to rue a lost opportunity at European glory.
