Nigerian government institutions and facilities have flouted the government directive that flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attairu and 10 other military officers who died in a plane crash on Friday in Kaduna.
President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered that the national flag be flown at half-mast at all public buildings, facilities and official residences from Monday to Wednesday in honour of the officers.
But checks by SaharaReporters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja showed that there was no compliance with the directive as flags were seen in many parts of the city being flown at full mast, particularly at Eagle Square.
About 50 national flags mounted in front of the arcade which hosts national and international events were on full display without any sign of honour for the late officers.
There was little compliance with the directive in some of the ministries, public institutions and private organisations visited by our correspondent.
The officers lost their lives in an plane crash in Kaduna last friday while on their way to attend the passing-out parade of army recruits scheduled for Saturday,
Meanwhile, Nigerians have continued to react to the absence of the President and Vice President at the burial of the army officers which took place at the military cemetery on Sunday.
