A group of Northern Nigerian Youth Ambassadors has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately appoint Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
The youth leaders emphasized that Dr. Tejuosho's expertise and experience are crucial in addressing the pressing issues of poverty, inequality, and humanitarian crises affecting vulnerable Nigerians.
The group, representing various states in the North, expressed concern over the delay in appointing a minister for the critical portfolio. They stressed that the continued wait has exacerbated the suffering of millions of Nigerians, particularly in the North, who are grappling with poverty, displacement, and insecurity.
According to the youth ambassadors, Dr. Tejuosho's appointment would bring a sense of urgency and effective leadership to the ministry, enabling it to tackle the pressing challenges of:
- Humanitarian crises in the Northeast and Northwest
- Poverty and inequality in the region
- Displacement and rehabilitation of IDPs
- Inadequate access to education and healthcare
The group praised Dr. Tejuosho's remarkable record in humanitarian work, philanthropy, and advocacy, which makes her an ideal candidate for the position. Her leadership would ensure that the ministry's efforts align with international best practices, leveraging her extensive network and experience in the humanitarian sector.
The Northern Nigerian Youth Ambassadors urged President Tinubu to heed their call and appoint Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejuosho as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation without further delay.
