The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reassured corps members deployed to Ondo State, including those relocating to the state, of their safety and welfare throughout their service year.
Speaking at the closing ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) orientation course, Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, emphasized that the state remains peaceful and committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious affiliations.
“The government will continue to prioritize the security of corps members across all parts of the state. However, it is essential that you identify yourselves as corps members and avoid any associations with miscreants or hoodlums,” she advised.
Mrs. Bakare encouraged the corps members to accept their postings with a positive mindset and leave lasting legacies in their host communities by embarking on impactful projects that address immediate needs. She highlighted the achievements of previous corps members and urged them to uphold those standards.
She also stressed the importance of seeking permission before traveling and avoiding night journeys, underscoring the Scheme’s commitment to their safety.
On skills acquisition, Mrs. Bakare appealed to corps members to develop at least one vocational skill during their service year. She noted that such skills would not only enhance their personal growth but also contribute to the socio-economic development of Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.
“Apply the lessons learned during your orientation course as guiding principles throughout your service year and beyond. Be at the forefront of our campaign for national re-orientation and unity,” she added.
Mrs. Bakare expressed gratitude to camp officials for their dedication to the success of the orientation program and encouraged them to continue their good work.
Out of the 1,293 corps members registered in Ondo State, 362 applied for relocation, with 250 applications approved on marital and health grounds.
The ceremony concluded with the donation of 15 waste bins and a wall clock by the Corps Camp Directors.
