Tinubu targeting opposition, not corruption – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of using state institutions to suppress opposition rather than genuinely fighting corruption.

In a strongly worded statement, Atiku condemned the recent arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf, a well-known social critic, suggesting that the detention was politically motivated. 

He noted that while the allegations against Yusuf date back to the previous administration, the timing of his arrest raises serious concerns about the government’s true intentions.

“The Tinubu government, despite being filled with individuals who themselves are facing corruption scandals and international investigations, continues to weaponize state institutions to silence its critics,” Atiku stated.

He further alleged that the administration selectively pursues opponents while protecting allies who are under investigation.

According to him, this pattern demonstrates that Tinubu is not committed to fighting corruption but rather using the anti-corruption narrative to eliminate political rivals.

“It has become glaringly clear that Tinubu is not waging a war on corruption – he is waging a war on the opposition, manipulating the system for his own political advantage,” Atiku concluded.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over political repression and selective prosecution in Nigeria, fueling debates about the credibility of the administration’s anti-corruption stance.
