The newly appointed Accountant General of the Federation, Shamsedeen Ogunjimi, has assumed office.
Speaking after assuming office in Abuja on Monday, Ogunjimi emphasised the importance of unity in achieving the objectives of the organisation.
He expressed his commitment to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work environment, and reassured staff that he would not victimise anyone.
“It is good to be back. This is our home, nobody will drive us out. I want everybody to have the spirit of togetherness,” Ogunjimi stated.
Stating his vision for the Office, he said: “I am not in any group and I am not going to polarise the house. If I fail, everyone here has failed. I am ready to commit myself to the service of the public.”
Ogunjimi urged his colleagues to leave past grievances behind and focus on serving the nation. “During my interview, when I was asked what I would do differently to change the image of the Treasury House, I wanted to put the question back to you. What will you do differently to correct the image of the OAGF? The question is to all staff members. Everyone of us must work to change the perception of the country’s treasury.”
He also addressed concerns about leadership styles, promising not to engage in the practice of dismissing directors based on personal preferences: “I have been a victim of the chief executive officer firing directors he or she doesn’t like. ‘I don’t like him. Please remove him,’ I am not going to be that leader,” he assured.
Ogunjimi was appointed by President Bola Tinubu last Tuesday.
