By Oki Samson
As the world marks **International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025**, the **Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Safety Signatures Limited**, **Chief (Dr.) Cynthia Gregg**, has paid tribute to the resilience, brilliance, and invaluable contributions of women in Nigeria and across Africa.
Dr. Gregg, who was recently recognized as one of **Trek Africa's 25 Most Influential and Role Model Women in Africa**, described women as the **bedrock of the nation and continent**, driving progress across homes, farms, schools, boardrooms, and communities. However, she emphasized that despite the strides made since the **Beijing Declaration** three decades ago, many women still face significant barriers limiting their potential.
In a statement made available to Trek Africa Newspaper, Chief Gregg remarked:
"Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, brilliance, and achievements of all women and the girl-child across Nigeria, Africa, and the world."
She further highlighted the significance of this year’s IWD theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
"This theme serves as a powerful reminder of the need to reaffirm our commitment to building a safe society where every woman and girl-child can thrive—accessing quality education, free from intimidation, discrimination, and limitations. It is time for women to take charge and drive this change in their respective spaces," she stated.
Call for Greater Participation in Governance
Speaking at the recently concluded Trek Africa's 25 Most Influential and Role Model Women in Africa (MIRWA) Award, held at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, Dr. Cynthia Gregg called on women to actively participate in governance at all levels—locally, nationally, and globally.
According to her, women are natural problem-solvers, making them well-suited for leadership roles in politics and society.
"As women, we bring a distinct approach to governance—one that prioritizes collaboration, empathy, and inclusivity. Our ability to multitask and adapt makes us exceptional leaders. We must take our rightful place in governance because our perspectives and experiences are crucial in shaping policies that impact our communities," she asserted.
She further urged women to encourage young girls to pursue careers in diverse fields, including technology, STEM, security, arts, and medicine, stressing that fear should never hinder their ambitions.
"Those of us being recognized today faced challenges in our fields, but we refused to let fear hold us back. We must inspire and support the next generation of women leaders," she added.
