Residents of Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State, were thrown into shock following the assassination of a well-known building materials dealer, Ismaila Awoyinka, by unidentified gunmen.
The attack took place on Saturday night near his home, opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the businessman was ambushed shortly after performing the Taraweeh prayer, a voluntary prayer observed during Ramadan.
“He had just left the mosque around 8:35 p.m. when some men, dressed in white, arrived on a motorcycle and hid nearby. As he approached his residence, they suddenly emerged and shot him at close range. He died instantly,” a source revealed.
News of his death quickly spread, drawing a large crowd of sympathizers to his home, many of whom were left in shock.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Odigbo Local Government, Hon. Taiwo Adegoroye, described the assassination as a tragic loss, expressing deep concern over the security situation in the area.
Community leaders also condemned the killing, urging residents to be more vigilant, especially at night.
Meanwhile, security agencies are yet to confirm any arrests as investigations continue.
