It was a proud homecoming for Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as she returned to her roots in Delta State to launch the distribution of professional kits for midwives in the South-South zone. The event, held in Asaba under her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), was aimed to equip frontline health workers with essential tools to improve maternal and child healthcare.
Senator Tinubu highlighted the federal government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare, noting that 59,570 health workers had already been retrained out of a target of 120,000. Each of the six geopolitical zones will receive 10,000 scrubs and 10,000 pairs of crocs, with the South-South zone being the first to benefit. “Having the right skills and tools is crucial for effective healthcare delivery,” she said.
Notable personalities, including Hon. Stella Okotete, Hon. Dr. Okwudili,- Delta State APC National Women’s Leader, and Hon. Princess Okhios amongst others attended the non-partisan gathering, reflecting unity across party lines. The atmosphere was one of celebration and collaboration, with stakeholders from both APC and PDP present.
Dr. Iziaq Salako, Minister of State for Health, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to affordable healthcare, particularly for mothers and pregnant women. Since its launch in 2023, the RHI has driven progress in health, education, and economic empowerment, touching lives across Nigeria. For Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the visit was not just official duty but a heartfelt return to her people.
