Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure to enhance the state’s economic prosperity. The governor made this promise during the official commissioning of the Demurin/Agidi Roads and Church Street in Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Kosofe Local Government.
In his address, Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take ownership of government facilities by ensuring their proper use and safeguarding them from vandalism and waste disposal. He encouraged the community to stay vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and work together to preserve the infrastructure for the benefit of future generations.
The governor emphasised that the Demurin-Agidi Road project has greatly improved road connectivity and traffic flow, reduced travel time, and addressed perennial flooding issues. He stated that the project was part of the state’s broader efforts to boost intermodal transportation, which has had a positive impact on the health and socio-economic well-being of Lagos residents. “This project aligns with our THEMES+ Agenda, which focuses on providing critical infrastructure to support economic activities,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“The rehabilitation of Demurin Road, Agidi Road, and Church Street has revitalized socio-economic activities for thousands of residents and business owners in the area.”
He added that the Demurin-Agidi Road serves as a vital bypass for traffic heading to key markets like the Mile 12 International Commodities Market and the Owode Onirin Auto Parts Market on Ikorodu Road, further improving connectivity and supporting local businesses.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, hailed the project as a significant achievement that reflects the visionary leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat. He noted that the project aligns with the THEMES+ Agenda, particularly in transportation and traffic management, ensuring that inner-city roads remain accessible, resilient, and motorable.
The completed Demurin Road Network, which spans a combined length of 2.3 kilometres, serves as a strategic link between the Ikorodu-Mile 12 axis and other parts of the local government, enhancing mobility and connectivity within the region.
