Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Prof. Ebuoluwa Aderonke Adejuyigbe as the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo. Her appointment follows the recommendation of the institution’s Governing Council and comes as the tenure of Prof. Adesegun Fatusi as Vice Chancellor expires.
Prof. Adejuyigbe, a renowned Professor of Paediatrics, hails from Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State. She is currently the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, and a Consultant Paediatrician at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital.
Her extensive academic and professional credentials include being a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Medicine, former Dean of the Faculty of Clinical Sciences at OAU, Vice-President of the African Society of Paediatric Infectious Diseases, and Co-Chair of the National Child Health Technical Working Committee.
Prof. Adejuyigbe is set to assume office after the submission of the report of the newly constituted Visitation Panel for the university. In the interim, Prof. Adolphus Odogun Loto, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration and Clinical Services), will serve as Acting Vice Chancellor.
Visitation Panel to Review UNIMED’s Operations
In addition to the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor, Governor Aiyedatiwa has set up a Visitation Panel to assess the institution’s performance and recommend measures for improvement. The panel, chaired by Prof. Gbenga Olumekun, includes Elder Idowu Benjamin, Mr. Olumide Ogidan, Mr. Anthony Akala, and Mr. Richard Adeyinka Arifalo (Secretary).
The panel has been tasked with evaluating the university’s statutory compliance, financial management, staff adequacy, industrial relations, asset management, and implementation of previous visitation panel recommendations. It is expected to submit its report within six weeks.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening UNIMED’s operations and ensuring that it continues to provide quality medical education and services.
