LAGOS, NIGERIA – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s digital economy through a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Speaking on Friday during a courtesy visit by an NCC delegation led by its Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Aminu Maida, at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing telecommunications and digital infrastructure.
The partnership aligns with the Education and Technology pillar of the THEMES+ developmental agenda, which prioritizes digital transformation for economic growth and improved service delivery to residents.
$1.2 Billion Investment in Lagos Digital Space
Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that his administration has successfully attracted investments totaling approximately $1.2 billion into the state’s digital economy over the past five years.
“We have it on record that within five years of our administration, we have attracted investments in excess of about $1.2 billion directly into the digital space,” he stated. “These investments cover data centers, hyper-scale data centers, submarine cable landings, and a network that connects users and providers.”
He further assured the NCC of Lagos State’s readiness to support efforts aimed at protecting critical infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity, and fostering innovation in the technology sector.
NCC Commends Lagos’ Digital Growth
In his remarks, NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Aminu Maida, lauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s strides in digital transformation, telecommunications, and economic development.
He emphasized Lagos’ strategic importance as a major digital hub and called for enhanced collaboration in protecting digital infrastructure, addressing Right of Way issues, and ensuring proper coordination during road construction to prevent damage to telecom facilities.
Maida also highlighted the Executive Order signed by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024 to safeguard key infrastructure across the country. He urged all stakeholders to remain committed to securing Nigeria’s digital assets.
With this partnership, Lagos State and the NCC are set to drive further technological advancements, reinforcing the state’s position as Nigeria’s leading digital economy hub.
