LASG Strengthens Traffic Safety Education for School Children
In a strategic effort to instill traffic discipline and awareness in young minds, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has intensified its Lagos State School Traffic Safety Advocacy Programme (LSTSAP)** under the initiative tagged “Operation Catch Them Young.”
The reinvigorated programme, recently relaunched, aims to expand its reach and impact by equipping secondary school students across the state’s six educational districts with essential knowledge of road safety rules, traffic signs, and regulations. This advocacy drive takes place every Wednesday, with LASTMA officials engaging students directly in interactive sessions designed to promote responsible road use.
Speaking on the significance of the initiative, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, highlighted the importance of instilling traffic consciousness in children early. According to him, developing a culture of road safety at a young age is crucial in building a law-abiding society.
"The revitalization of 'Operation Catch Them Young' aligns with the Lagos State Government’s commitment to creating a safer and more orderly transportation system. By empowering students with critical traffic knowledge, we are proactively shaping a future where adherence to road regulations becomes second nature to all citizens," Giwa stated.
Beyond classroom teachings, the initiative incorporates practical experiences such as excursions, career day events, interactive road safety games, essay competitions, and outreach programmes tailored for students with special needs.
With a sustained rollout across various schools in the state, the Lagos State Government aims to leave a lasting impact on students, fostering a lifelong culture of responsible road use and safety consciousness from the grassroots level.
