Nestlé Nigeria Unveils Golden Morn 3-in-1, a Game-Changer in Affordable Nutrition
Lagos, Nigeria – March 17, 2024
Nestlé Nigeria has launched Golden Morn 3-in-1, a revolutionary ready-to-eat cereal designed to provide affordable and accessible nutrition to millions of Nigerians. The product, unveiled at a press conference in Lagos, marks a major milestone in the brand’s history, reinforcing Nestlé’s commitment to tackling malnutrition and food insecurity.
Addressing Nigeria’s Nutrition Challenges
Speaking at the launch, Omofasa Orhiunu, Category Manager, Dairy, highlighted the growing concern of food affordability in Nigeria. He referenced a 2024 report by FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, and WFP, which revealed that 172 million Nigerians were unable to afford a healthy diet in 2022. This alarming statistic underscores the urgent need for cost-effective and nutritious food solutions.
“At Nestlé, our purpose is to unlock the power of food to enhance quality of life today and for generations to come. We believe that everyone deserves access to a nutritious diet, and that’s why we have created Golden Morn 3-in-1—an affordable, accessible solution that ensures families get the nutrients they need,” Orhiunu stated.
A New Era for Golden Morn
Golden Morn 3-in-1 builds on the legacy of Golden Morn, which has been Nigeria’s most consumed cereal since its introduction in 1986. The new product combines maize, soya, and GRAINSMART Protect, a blend of Iron, Vitamin B1, B5, C, calcium, and protein, offering a fortified meal that supports immunity, energy, and overall well-being. Unlike the traditional version that requires milk, the 3-in-1 variant already contains milk, allowing consumers to prepare it by simply adding water—making it the first fully ready-to-eat cereal in Nigeria.
“This innovation makes nutritious breakfasts more convenient and cost-effective for families,” Orhiunu added. “By eliminating the need for extra milk, it reduces the total cost of a Golden Morn meal by up to XX%. With a 45g pack at an affordable price, this product brings balanced nutrition within reach of the average household.”
Nestlé’s Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability
Mr. Wassim Elhusseini, Managing Director and CEO of Nestlé Nigeria, emphasized the company’s focus on innovation, sustainability, and consumer-driven product development.
“Golden Morn 3-in-1 was developed over a two-year period in our in-house Research and Development center. Our approach ensures that we strike the right balance between nutrition and taste, aligning with consumer preferences,” Elhusseini said. “At Nestlé, we are committed to making high-quality nutrition affordable and accessible, especially for families who need it the most. This new product is another step in our journey towards a healthier future for Nigerians.”
He further reiterated Nestlé’s broader mission to drive sustainable food solutions, not just through product innovation but also by supporting local farmers, reducing environmental impact, and maintaining the highest food safety standards.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to continuous product innovation, informed by consumer insights and market needs. We believe that Golden Morn 3-in-1 will become a staple in Nigerian households, just like the original Golden Morn has been for decades,” Elhusseini concluded.
A New Chapter in Nigeria’s Breakfast Culture
The launch event concluded with an official unveiling ceremony, signifying the start of a new era in Nigeria’s breakfast culture. With its combination of convenience, affordability, and superior nutrition, Golden Morn 3-in-1 is set to reshape the way Nigerians enjoy breakfast, ensuring that more families have access to a healthy and balanced diet.
