President Donald Trump has alleged that South Africa is treating farmers terribly, calling the nation “a bad place to be right now.” The United States is cutting all federal funding to South Africa, US President Donald Trump announced on Friday. The decision marks a significant shift in US-South Africa relations, with Trump citing safety concerns for South African farmers as a key factor in his move.
In a post on Truth Social, the US President insisted that all federal funding to South Africa would be stopped.
Trump, who accused South Africa of confiscating land, said any farmer “seeking to flee that country for reasons of safety will be invited” into the United States.
He also promised a “rapid pathway to Citizenship” for the fleeing farmers and their families, with immediate effect.
He wrote: “South Africa is being terrible, plus, to longtime Farmers in the country.
They are confiscating their LAND and FARMS, and MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. A bad place to be right now, and we are stopping all Federal Funding.
“To go a step further, any Farmer (with family!) from South Africa, seeking to flee that country for reasons of safety, will be invited into the United States of America with a rapid pathway to Citizenship. This process will begin immediately!”
Trump’s decision comes amid longstanding debates over land reforms and farm attacks in South Africa, which have been a point of concern among conservative groups in the US. The move is expected to draw both support and criticism, as it touches on issues of foreign aid, immigration, and international relations.
The South African government has yet to respond to the announcement, and it remains unclear how the policy will be implemented in practice.
