Thugs Attack Journalists Covering Demolition in Lagos Mainland
Several journalists were attacked on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Otumara Community in the Ilaje area of Lagos Mainland while covering the ongoing demolition of residential buildings in the area.
The journalists had arrived in the community to assess the scale of the demolition following protests by residents and civil society groups, led by the President of the Center for Human and Socio-Economic Rights, Comrade Alex Omotesen. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, who arrived in a navy blue Toyota saloon car bearing the plate number “NURTW 01,” were armed with dangerous weapons. They allegedly assaulted the journalists and prevented them from carrying out their duties.
One of the affected residents, Mrs. Olatunji Jacob, whose house was demolished, revealed that the thugs had been terrorizing the community. Mrs. Olatunji, the widow of a late ITV Radio cameraman who worked with Comrade Adams Oshiomhole during his tenure as Edo State governor, alleged that the assailants were mobilized by powerful political figures in the state.
