A distinguished panel of experts is set to convene at the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), currently taking place in New York, USA. The global event, titled “No Woman, No Peace! - A Global Appraisal of the Role of Gender in Peace and Security,” is scheduled for Monday, March 17, 2025.
Among the notable personalities expected at the high-level discussion are the Chief Judge of Ondo State, Hon. Justice Olusegun Odusola, and Her Royal Highness Olori Olufunmilayo Ajibola-Oluyede. Also participating are Professor Lady Ingrid Detter De Frankopan, renowned author of The Law of War and former advisor to Pope John Paul II; Dr. Nancy K. Stafford, Past Chair of the American Bar Association International Law Section; and Dr. Abbey Ogunwale, Vice President of the One Earth Future Foundation, UNA-NCA.
Other esteemed speakers include Prof. Joy Ezeilo, SAN, a human rights activist and former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Trafficking; Robert J. Gaudet, an international human rights and class action attorney based in the USA; and Professor B. Alloh, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Delta State University (DELSU).
Speaking to journalists at the United Nations headquarters, HRH Olori Olufunmi Ajibola-Oluyede, the initiator of the event, emphasized its significance.
According to her, the panel aims to reassess the effectiveness of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 in recognizing women’s essential role in conflict resolution, peace negotiations, and global stability.
The session will focus on devising sustainable strategies for the resolution’s broader implementation.
For maximum global impact, the event is supported by leading international legal organizations and facilitated by prominent legal experts. These include Jennifer Bishop, Esq., Chair of the International Bar Association Women Lawyers Committee; Renee Dopplick, Esq., Council Member of the American Bar Association International Law Section; and Mandy D. Asagba, President of the African Women Lawyers Association International and former Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association. Also involved is Sophie Chima, Esq., an executive of the Federación Internacional de Abogadas (FIDA) USA and an associate at TRLPLAW Solicitors & Advocates.
Additionally, Olori Oluyede’s Ayede Ogbese Women Vanguard will play a key role in the event, continuing its longstanding tradition of supporting global women’s empowerment initiatives.
