In a decisive move against illicit drug activity, personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT have raided a known criminal hideout at Gidan Drama, Malu Road, Apapa, Lagos, arresting 27 suspected drug peddlers and seizing various hard drugs and illegal substances.
The operation, which was carried out on Saturday, April 5, 2025, followed credible intelligence received by the naval base. It led to the swift deployment of personnel under Operation MESA. According to the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel—represented by the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien—the raid successfully dislodged the criminal enclave, which had long served as a hub for illicit drug activities.
Among those apprehended were 24 males and 3 females. The female suspects were identified as Ajike Rahime (20), Padipe Olamiposin (20), and Ayike Yusuf (21). The male suspects ranged in age from 18 to 45 years, with names including Samaili Ibrahim (21), Yusuf Danjuma (30), Friday Ochoba (45), and others, all of whom were caught in possession of illegal substances.
This operation, the Navy stated, reflects its unwavering commitment to supporting national efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking, especially among young Nigerians whose future and health are at risk due to substance abuse. Commodore Nimmyel emphasized that the Navy will continue to act on intelligence and conduct similar operations to rid the region of criminal elements threatening public safety and national security.
All 27 suspects, along with the seized substances, have been handed over to officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its resolve to sustain momentum in its operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities within its area of responsibility.
