Zamalek Clinches Third Consecutive Title as First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Closes 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship
ABUJA, Nigeria – The curtains have officially closed on the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja, with Egypt’s Zamalek Club once again emerging champions — their third straight title victory — after an electrifying final match against Al-Ahly.
Nigeria’s First Lady and Grand Patron of the championship, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, led a host of dignitaries to witness the grand finale and preside over the colourful closing ceremony. The event marked the end of 14 thrilling days of competition featuring top-tier volleyball action from 16 clubs across the African continent.
The championship match saw Zamalek take the first set 29-27 in a fierce contest, before Al-Ahly bounced back to claim the second set 22-25. Zamalek then regained dominance, winning the third set 25-20 and sealing the championship with a decisive fourth set, showcasing resilience and tactical brilliance.
In her remarks, Senator Tinubu commended all participating teams for their exceptional performances, particularly hailing Zamalek for their consistency and hard-earned victory.
“To our champions, Zamalek Club, on behalf of Nigeria and the entire continent of Africa, I say congratulations,” she said. “Your triumph reflects not just skill, but dedication, teamwork, and an unyielding spirit. Your journey started long before this tournament – in community courts, in early morning training sessions, and moments of persistence when giving up seemed easier.”
The First Lady also lauded the Nigeria Customs Service for hosting what she described as a world-class competition, praising the successful organization as proof of Nigeria's growing potential as a hub for international volleyball.
Kenya’s KPC claimed the bronze medal after defeating Tunisia’s Carthage Club in straight sets during the third-place playoff.
With 16 elite clubs participating over two action-packed weeks, the 2025 edition of the African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship has further strengthened the sport's footprint on the continent, showcasing the immense talent and competitiveness among African women’s volleyball teams.
